Chiranjib New VP BJD

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Shri Chiranjib Biswal is appointed BJD State Vice President in Strategic Move to Consolidate Coastal Odisha in general and particularly Jagatsinghpur District Base.

In a significant organizational restructuring, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has appointed veteran leader Shri Chiranjib Biswal as a Vice President of the party. The appointment was formalized in an office order (No. 82/PRS/ORG/BJD/2025) issued on October 8, 2025, by BJD President Shri Naveen Patnaik.

The elevation of Shri Biswal to a top organizational post is viewed by political observers as a calculated move by the BJD to strengthen its organizational structure and consolidate its influence in the crucial coastal zone and in district of Jagatsinghpur, a region where the Biswal family holds considerable sway.

A prominent political figure from the region, Shri Chiranjib Biswal carries a strong political legacy, being the elder son of the Shri Basant Kumar Biswal, a respected Congress stalwart and former Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. This lineage grants him a substantial grassroots connection in the district.

Shri Biswal’s political journey began with the Indian National Congress (INC), where he was a former two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). He successfully represented the Tirtol Assembly Constituency in 2004 and the Jagatsinghpur Assembly Constituency in 2014. Before his switch to the regional party earlier this year, he had served in key positions within the Congress, including as the Working President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).

Without fighting election in 2024, Shri Biswal helped BJD immensely and he earned respect among the rank and file of the regional political outfit.

By appointing Shri Biswal to a Vice President position, the BJD has strategically accommodated a leader with proven electoral success and a dedicated political network, reinforcing the party’s presence in the Jagatsinghpur area ahead of future political challenges.

Other appointments announced in the same order include Shri Pushpendra Singh Deo and Shri Ganeswar Behera as Senior General Secretaries, and Smt. Alka Mohanty, Shri Lambodar Nial, Smt. Irani Ray, Shri Sudhir Das, and Shri Manoj Mishra as General Secretaries.
