Bhubaneswar: The state-level review of District Chief Fisheries Officers at Krushi Bhavan Auditorium focused directly on translating Odisha’s vision for agricultural transformation into actionable ground-level outcomes for the fisheries sector. Convened under the chairmanship of Shri Prem Chandra Chaudhary, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, the meeting evaluated critical welfare schemes and infrastructure projects alongside Fisheries Director Shri Siddhartha Das, senior officials, and district officers.
The meeting served as an operational checkpoint for accelerating primary schemes including Matsya Pokhari Yojana (MMKY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY), Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), and the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA). Beyond scheme execution, administrative emphasis was directed toward strengthening Primary Fishermen Cooperative Societies, expediting major fisheries infrastructure projects, and ensuring the optimal operationalization of departmental fish seed farms across all districts.
Under the guidance of Shri Prem Chandra Chaudhary, these ground-level implementations are directly aligned with the broader Odisha Viksit 2036 vision spearheaded by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi. The long-term blueprint envisions transforming Odisha into a premier Blue Economy hub in eastern India through modernized harvesting capabilities, cluster-based brackish water aquaculture expansion, and sustainable coastal ecosystem management. Special focus areas under this strategic framework include scaling up deep-sea fishing fleets, modernizing harbors at key coastal locations, expanding bio-floc and poly-lining technology, and establishing specialized seafood processing parks.
By bridging grassroots field performance with strategic policy mandates, Shri Prem Chandra Chaudhary highlighted the importance of robust monitoring, public-private partnerships, and digital technology integration. These coordinated measures aim to double production efficiency, elevate annual marine and aquaculture export revenues toward the target of 25,000 crore rupees by 2036, and create sustainable economic opportunities for millions of traditional fishers across the state.
