Bhubaneswar: Following the completion of elections in the State, the process of the formation of a new government began on today with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Odisha presenting the gazette notification declaring the poll results to Governor Raghubar Das at Raj Bhavan here.
CEO Nikunja Bihari Dhal presented the gazette notification to the Governor. The notification was regarding the election of new members of the next assembly and it will pave the way for the formation of the House.
The CEO was accompanied by representatives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and other senior officials.
The Governor’s secretariat has intimated it to the State Parliamentary Affairs Department.
The Governor congratulated the CEO and the entire team in the State for conducting free, fair and peaceful elections.
The BJP crossed the majority mark in the 147-member assembly, winning 78 seats, while the BJD bagged 51 and the Congress 14. One CPI (M) candidate and three Independent nominees also emerged victorious.
Meanwhile, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that came into force on March 16 with the announcement of the Assembly and Lok Sabha election has been lifted.
The model code of conduct is a set of conventions agreed upon by all stakeholders and imposed during elections. Its objective is to keep the campaigning, polling and counting process orderly, clean and peaceful and check any abuse of state machinery and finances by the party in power.
