Bhubaneswar: Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), played a pivotal role in recent high-level discussions in Odisha, focusing on the accelerated implementation of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY). His engagement highlighted Odisha’s strategic importance in India’s clean energy transition and underscored the MNRE’s commitment to these flagship initiatives.
During his meeting with Chief Secretary, Odisha, Shri Manoj Ahuja, and other senior state officials, Secretary Shri Sarangi acknowledged Odisha’s strong potential to lead India’s Green Hydrogen transition. He specifically noted the growing interest from domestic investors for the production of Green Hydrogen derivatives like Green Ammonia and Green Methanol, particularly around key ports such as Paradip and Gopalpur.
The discussions, which also included key central ministries and leading Green Hydrogen developers, aimed to address critical challenges in developing large-scale Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia projects, especially within the SEZ in Gopalpur. Secretary Sarangi’s participation is instrumental in shaping a comprehensive roadmap for India’s burgeoning Green Hydrogen ecosystem.
Beyond Green Hydrogen, Secretary Shri Sarangi also reviewed the state’s performance under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), a crucial program for promoting rooftop solar adoption. Following the review, the MNRE provided directions to District Collectors to expedite rooftop solar installations across Odisha. The Ministry, under Secretary Sarangi’s leadership, also shared best practices from other states for agricultural solarization under PM KUSUM, prompting the Chief Secretary to direct the State Nodal Agency to implement Feeder Level Solarization to extend clean energy benefits to the farming community.
Secretary Shri Sarangi’s active involvement in these discussions signifies the MNRE’s focused approach towards leveraging Odisha’s potential to drive India’s renewable energy goals, emphasizing both large-scale industrial projects and widespread citizen-centric initiatives
