Bhubaneswar: State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a proposal for the construction of the distribution system for the Hadua Irrigation Project.
Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg briefed Media after the meeting held here today. This project is designed for the integrated development of the Narasinghpur, Badamba, and Tigiria blocks within Cuttack district.
The approved plan involves the installation of an underground pipeline (UGPL) to transport water from the Hadua Dam, which is currently under construction on the Hadua River near Kharod village.
The execution of this distribution network was cleared at a tender cost of Rs. 135,75,97,035.82, excluding GST. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned Rs. 6,85,58,650.31 for the operation and maintenance of the system over a five-year period following its commissioning. The construction work is scheduled to be completed within twenty-four months.
Once finished, the project will provide assured irrigation to a total of 3,641 hectares of cultivable command area across 86 villages. Specifically, 76 villages in the Baramba block, five villages in the Narasinghpur block, and five villages in the Tigiria block will benefit from the new infrastructure.
By utilizing micro-irrigation practices, the project aims to encourage local farmers to transition from high-duty paddy crops to more lucrative cash crops. This initiative is expected to improve the socio-economic conditions and overall development of these drought-prone regions.
State Cabinet has officially sanctioned a tender for the expansion of the Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme in Sambalpur district. This specific project, identified as Cluster Number 27, involves the construction of four lift irrigation schemes designed to provide water to upland areas that cannot be reached by traditional flow irrigation due to their elevation.
The contract has been awarded to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. at an execution cost of Rs. 204,21,88,933, plus an additional Rs. 16,33,75,115 for fifteen years of operation and maintenance. Both figures are quoted without GST. Under this plan, surplus water will be lifted from the Hirakud Reservoir through an intake system and distributed via a pressurized pipe network.
Expected to be completed within thirty-six months, the project aims to create additional irrigation potential for approximately 6,210 hectares. The initiative will benefit farmers across fifty-four villages in Sambalpur district. Because the system is compatible with micro-irrigation, officials expect local cultivators to shift from traditional high-duty paddy to more profitable cash crops, thereby improving the socio-economic status of upland farming communities.
This latest development is part of the larger Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme, which operates with an overall outlay of Rs. 10,759.20 crore to provide supplemental irrigation to over 2.6 lakh hectares of land across the state
