As per the provision in the original DPR of Hirakud Dam, water will be pumped from RD.34.10 km of Bargarh Main Canal to meet the irrigation requirement of Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project. To implement the provisions of DPR, lining ofBargarh Main Canal up to 34.10 km and renovation of structures are necessary & closure of Bargarh Main Canal is required for at least two years.

It is apprehended that closure of canal may lead to resentment of farmers in the Bargarh canal command area.

In view of above, an alternate arrangement made and it is decided to draw the water directly from the Head Regulator of Bargrah Main Canal by constructing 34.10 km pipeline.

Accordingly a proposal namely “Construction of intake structure along with pressure main from RD 0.00 Km. to RD 34.10 Km. along the right bank of Bargarh Main Canal” has been prepared and tender was invited.
