BRICS Agriculture Summit

New Delhi: In the lead-up to the upcoming high-level BRICS agriculture meetings, Dr. Pramod Kumar Mehrda, Additional Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, has emphasized the critical progress made toward a collaborative, future-ready agricultural framework.

Speaking on the outcomes of the fourth BRICS Agriculture Working Group meeting held on June 2-3, Dr. Mehrda highlighted that the discussions successfully advanced the drafting of a comprehensive Joint Declaration.

This declaration anchors its strategy around a strictly farmer-centric approach, aiming to address pressing global issues. Key priorities covered during the deliberations included food security, nutrition, rural livelihoods, agricultural trade and cooperation, climate-resilient farming practices, and strategic partnerships targeted at innovation and investment.

Dr. Mehrda noted that valuable suggestions and insights provided by member nations during the two-day session have significantly propelled the agenda forward, setting a constructive tone for the upcoming ministerial-level talks.

India is slated to host the major BRICS Conference of Agriculture Ministers along with the broader Agriculture Working Group sessions right here in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

According to Dr. Mehrda, the Agriculture Working Group will officially convene from June 9 to 11, 2026. This will be immediately followed by the formal Ministerial meetings scheduled for June 12 to 13, 2026, where member countries are expected to finalize the joint agreements discussed during this week’s preparatory rounds.
