Bhubaneswar: In a major piece of good news for the wildlife lovers, An extremely rare black leopard was spotted in Odisha forests during ongoing Tiger Census in the State.
This was informed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Wildlife, Susanta Nanda in his X (Twitter) handle. He has shared two beautiful pictures of the Leopard, which was spotted in a forest in Central Odisha.
“On going camera trap tiger census in Odisha is throwing up some exciting & unexpected presence of wild fauna in our State,” Shri Nanda posted in X. However, he has not mentioned the location for the safety and security of the rare category of leopard.
This extraordinary discovery has highlighted the significance of protecting the unique habitats and species found in the area.
Earlier, black tigers or pseudo-melanistic tigers were sighted in Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district. With a distinctive dark stripe pattern on a light background of white or golden – the black tigers are rare and have only been camera-trapped in Similipal till date.
