Bhubaneswar: Continuing its strong action against corruption, the State Government today ordered compulsory retirement of OAS officer and Additional Sub-Collector of Nabarangpur, Prasanta Kumar Rout, who was arrested on charges of possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs 5 crore.
During the raids, vigilance officials had recovered cash of Rs 3.02 crores from Shri Rout’s residences at Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur, bank & insurance deposits over Rs. 92.34 lakhs, five plots, one building, two four wheelers, gold jewellery worth Rs 27.27 lakh.
Besides, Shri Rout spent Rs.87 lakh on medical education of his daughter and educational expenditure of his son.
The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer was also found to own five plots, including four in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, a ‘benami’ plot at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district/
In total, he was found earning disproportionate assets worth Rs 5.21 crore, which is more than 500 per cent of his known source of income. Rout was arrested by the vigilance on June 24. Rout is facing four corruption cases and departmental proceedings.
The action was taken following the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. Since 2019, the state government has taken action against 188 corrupt officials.
