New Delhi: Shri Ashok K Meena, Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, led the ninth District Collectors Peyjal Samvad, steering the national dialogue on the strategic advancement of rural water supply.
Serving as the driving force behind this flagship program, Union Secretary Shri Meena highlighted a critical transition taking place within the national initiative during the deliberations.
According to official updates, the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 represents a pivotal shift away from the mere creation of physical infrastructure toward long-term sustainability, reliable service delivery, and grassroots community ownership. To achieve these goals, three priority areas have been outlined for district administrations across the country.
First, district officials must ensure the regular conduction of monthly District Water and Sanitation Mission meetings. Minutes from these reviews are required to be uploaded promptly to a dedicated national dashboard to enable continuous tracking and eliminate administrative delays.
Second, there is an urgent call for states and local bodies to optimize fund utilization, adhere strictly to reporting and audit requirements, and carefully plan projects to prevent any interruptions in financial flows.
Third, the mission emphasizes learning from innovative field practices. During the session, five distinct districts presented their progress and models of successful operation, offering a blueprint for other regions to emulate under the updated Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 framework.
The overarching vision of the extended mission is to ensure that all rural water systems remain robust and fully functional for the next thirty years.
Achieving this milestone relies heavily on empowering Gram Panchayats, establishing dependable engineering teams, and integrating real-time digital monitoring to secure reliable tap water access for every rural household.
