Bhubaneswar: On getting instruction from the Union Government, Development Commissioner Anu Garg asked all District Collectors to meet the target set under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain (JSA: CTR) campaign.
The DC has issued this instruction to the Collectors and Commissioners of five corporation towns including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela to ensure successful implementation of the campaign in their respective jurisdiction.
“It has come to notice that as per data uploaded in the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari” (JSJB) sub-portal under JSA portal, for Odisha state, data for only 8287 numbers of Ground Water Recharge Structures have been uploaded by 30 districts as on 11.04.2025, against the target of at least 2,60,705 numbers,” Smt.Garg said in her letter to the Collectors.
She said a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) was held on March 20 this year under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary to discuss the role of States/UTs for effective implementation of the JSA campaign and the action points to be undertaken by the States.
In view of the suggestions made in above meeting, the District Collectors are appointed as the district nodal officers for JSA campaign and EO, Zilla Parishad of respective districts shall take necessary steps in coordination with the district Collectors while implementing various water conservation activities under the JSA campaign in the State, Smt.Garg informed.
The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB), an initiative under the JSA campaign, was launched to enhance water recharge through artificial recharge structures.
Each district is targeted to create at least five artificial recharge structures per village, while each Municipal Corporation is tasked with constructing a minimum of 10,000 recharge structures.
The Collectors have been asked to take effective steps for undertaking water conservation activities with the large-scale community participation in their respective district and monitor the uploading of data on the Jal Sanchay Dashboard regularly, for successful implementation of JSA:CTR 2025 in the State.
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain -2025 has been launched by Ministry of Jal Shakti with the theme Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari – Jan Jagrukta Ki Or (Peoples’ Action for Water Conservation – Towards Intensified Community Connect), emphasizing the importance of engagement, community mobilisation, inter-sectoral convergence and innovative financing mechanisms at grassroots level in the management and conservation of water resources.
