Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena on Tuesday issued an advisory pertaining to soaring temperatures across the State.

The SRC alerted Collectors of Angul, Balasore, Boudh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Sambalpur and Sonepur to circulate the heatwave warning widely.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning on heatwave for these districts from March 16 to March 19.

In this regard, the public has been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid moving outside during noontime.

“Special care needs to be taken for infants, elderly and sick people,” it added.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area is likely to form over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the same region, the IMD said.

Squally winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over southern parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal on March 15 and 16.

In view of this, fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during the period.

However, the IMD said as of now it has not issued any information on the possibility of cyclone formation in the Bay of Bengal.

IMD Senior Scientist Umasankar Das said, “a cyclonic circulation had formed over the central part of south Bay of Bengal and the adjoining area over Equatorial Indian Ocean around March 10 has become active and under its impact, a low pressure area is likely to form over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.”

However, there is no information on its development in the next five days, said Mr.Das.

He clarified that for the next seven days the formation will have no impact on Odisha.
