Agri On Mission Mode

Bhubaneswar: While Agriculture Sector is the major source of livelihood of the majority of the population of Odisha, the State Government has gone on Mission Mode with Six Missions in place.

Minister Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Ranendra Pratap Swain, Principal Secretary Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Arabinda Kumar Padhee briefed Media in presence of Director Information and Public Relations Indramani Tripathy. Principal Secretary FARD Suresh K Vashishth was also present.  

To being with Odisha Millets Mission(OMM), which is a flagship program of Govt. of Odisha started in the year 2017-18 to revive millets in farms and to provide livelihood support to small and marginal farmers of rainfed areas of Odisha and contributing to nutritional security of community.

The OMM was started in 2017 in 30 blocks covering 7 districts with a budget of Rs 65.54 Crore. It was further extended to 142 blocks covering 19 districts in 2022-23 and it will be scaled up to 177 blocks covering all 30 districts from 2023 onwards.

A sum of budget Rs 2808.83 Crore has been approved by the state cabinet for extension and expansion of OMM till 2026-27.

In the run of International Year of Millets; Odisha Government has become the first state to dedicate 10 November  to celebrate as Mandia Divas (Millet Day) to glorify the importance of Millets.

The Government of Odisha is implementing a new State Sector Scheme – Coffee Plantation for Sustainable Livelihoods for the Period 2022-23 to 2026-27 in the hilly tracts of Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjharand Gajapati districts. The proposed mission envisages expanding the State Coffee acreage from 10,000 acres at present to 1,00,000 acres by 2030, with 20,800 MT total production from the existing 540 MT in 10 years. Over the period the value of production will increase from Rs. 22.78 Cr. to 644 Cr. and around 50,000 famers will be benefited. Initially for the period 2022-23 to 2026-27, an amount of Rs. 1406 Crore will be invested during the scheme period.

Mushroom Mission:The mission will make the state self-sufficient in production of button mushroom and net exporter of paddy straw and oyster mushroom involving women SHGs/ FPOs through area expansion and promotion of value added products over the mission period from 2022-23 to 2026-27.

The Mission will be implemented in convergence of ongoing schemes requiring Rs.328.88crores from state budget and Rs. 97.50 crores from ongoing schemes over the mission period.

 Floriculture Mission: The mission will make the state self-sufficient in production of loose flowers in first three years of the mission period through area expansion in 30 districts and net exporter of cut flowers in five years involving women SHGs/ FPOs in selected clusters of 7 districts over the mission period from 2022-23 to 2026-27.

The Mission will be implemented in convergence of ongoing schemes requiring Rs.38.31crores from state budget and Rs. 62.38 crores from ongoing schemes over the mission period.

Spices Mission: The mission aims to double the area under spices and promote primary processing of spices with establishment of market linkage through buy-back arrangement involving women SHGs/ FPOs in selected clusters over the mission period from 2022-23 to 2026-27 .

The Mission will be implemented in convergence of ongoing schemes requiring Rs.724.60 crores from state budget and Rs. 5.50 crores from ongoing schemes over the mission period.

Odisha Jackfruit Mission is envisaged as a pilot program to be implemented over 5 years in 50 blocks of 9 selected districts of the state in convergence of different on-going schemes of different departments with primary focus on aggregation and processing of Jackfruits, development of

Odisha Jackfruit brand for marketing different Jackfruit processed products with a budget outlay of Rs. 97.16 crores during mission period.
