Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi said that keeping the city clean is the collective responsibility of all citizens, noting that Bhubaneswar currently holds the ninth position in the national cleanliness ranking.
Speaking at a cleanliness program titled “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” organized by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation at Khandagiri, he emphasized that active public participation can help the city secure the top spot as the cleanest and most beautiful in the country.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to extend their civic responsibility beyond their own doorsteps to include neighborhood streets and local areas. He encouraged people to cooperate with sanitation workers by segregating wet and dry waste at home, handing it over to garbage collection vehicles regularly, and refraining from littering public roads while discouraging others from doing so.
Highlighting the historical context, CM Shri Majhi recalled that Mahatma Gandhi prioritized cleanliness even before India’s independence, a vision successfully transformed into a mass movement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign starting in 2014. He described today’s event as an innovative initiative connecting the entire society to the cause of hygiene.
Expressing gratitude to the sanitation workers for their continuous service, the Chief Minister credited them for making Bhubaneswar cleaner and more beautiful than before. He reiterated that the state government is fully committed to ensuring social security and housing facilities for sanitation workers.
Furthermore, he congratulated the authorities, officials, and sanitation workers of both Bhubaneswar and Puri for being selected among fifty major cities in the country to be developed as model sanitation cities.
The event was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr.Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Ekamra MLA Shri Babu Singh, BMC Mayor Shrimati Sulochana Das, former MLA shri Priyadarshi Mishra, social worker Shri Jagannath Pradhan, BMC Commissioner shri Chanchal Rana, along with corporators, municipal employees, and sanitation workers.
