Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi provided a comprehensive account of the state’s security measures. Chief Minister was replying to Shri Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo in odisha Legislative Assembly. Shri Singh Deo asked about CCTV installation in all the Municipal Corporation, Municipality and NAC-wise for policing, traffic management and public safety.
And Shri Singh Deo asked as to how many are functional/non-functional, how many have Al-based facial recognition, ANPR or other intelligent surveillance capabilities, whether they are integrated with police control rooms/ICCCs, the ULB-wise expenditure incurred during the last five year and cameras sanctioned or proposed with timelines for installation?
Chief Minister Shri Majhi said the Department of Home has undertaken a major infrastructure expansion program to install CCTV cameras across 645 police stations and 263 outposts operating throughout Odisha.
This initiative aims to ensure complete surveillance coverage of police station premises and outposts, bringing transparency to custodial interactions, aiding law enforcement monitoring, and deterring administrative misconduct.
Beyond law enforcement facilities, the government has integrated urban surveillance networks with traffic management and public safety initiatives under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Smart Cities Initiative.
Under this scheme, high-definition and automated surveillance networks have been deployed in the smart cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. These systems utilize integrated command and control centers to process live camera feeds for intelligent traffic management, incident detection, crowd control, and real-time public safety response across key urban intersections and vulnerable public zones.
