New Delhi: In a historic milestone for Eastern India’s industrial landscape, prominent mining and industry leader Dr. Prabodh Kumar Mohanty was unanimously elected as the President of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) at the apex body’s 60th Annual General Meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Dr. Mohanty, the Managing Director of the SNM Group and current President of the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (UCCIL), brings decades of deep-rooted expertise to the helm of India’s national mineral sector.

Deeply rooted in the mineral-rich soil of Odisha, his journey reflects a long-standing commitment to bridging local industry priorities with national economic strategies.

Known for his extensive rapport across both State Government in Bhubaneswar and Union Ministries in New Delhi, the new FIMI Chief, Dr. Mohanty has consistently served as a crucial catalyst in aligning Odisha mineral potential with the Union Government’s broader vision for industrial self-reliance and energy security.

Assuming leadership of the nation’s top mining body, Dr. Mohanty expressed profound gratitude for the trust reposed in him by FIMI’s members. He emphasized that his primary agenda will focus on strengthening collaborative ties between central authorities, state governments, and private enterprise to shape a more competitive, transparent, and resilient mining ecosystem.

Outlining his strategic vision for the sector, Dr. Mohanty underscored the urgent need for accelerated mineral exploration, faster operationalisation of auctioned blocks, and modernizing operations through advanced beneficiation technologies.

He highlighted that securing critical minerals is indispensable to powering India’s manufacturing ambitions and accelerating its transition toward green energy.

With an industrial titan from Odisha leading FIMI, the sector looks toward a transformative era defined by sustainable development, policy clarity, and enhanced public-private engagement at the highest levels of governance.
