Bhubaneswar: Dr. Saravana Vivek M. has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) for Bhubaneswar. The 2015-batch IPS Officer, who was serving as the Superintendent of Police in Brahmapur, will replace Shri Jagmohan Meena, a 2013-batch officer whose resignation from service has been accepted.
The appointment of Dr. Saravana Vivek M. places an experienced officer at the helm of law enforcement in the Capital City. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Vivek completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute in Puducherry before deciding to transition into Public Administration. He successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination to join the Indian Police Service in the 2015 batch under the Odisha cadre.
Throughout his career in Odisha policing, Dr. Vivek M. has held several key administrative and field assignments. His career began in challenging terrain as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer in Malkangiri during his probationary period. He subsequently served as the Superintendent of Police in the Rayagada and Kalahandi districts, as well as the SP of Vigilance.
His profile expanded to national duties when the Election Commission of India appointed him as a Police Observer for high-stakes election duty. Known for focusing on cybercrime prevention, anti-narcotics operations, and community-oriented policing, his vast operational experience will shape his upcoming tenure overseeing security, traffic management, and law and order in Bhubaneswar.
Shri Abhinav Sonkar, a 2019-batch IPS officer serving as the SP of Dhenkanal, takes over as the new SP of Brahmapur. Taking his place in Dhenkanal is 2022-batch IPS officer Shri Mane Ajinkya Baburao, who previously served as the Additional SP of Paradeep.
Meanwhile, 2021-batch IPS officer Ms. A.B. Silpa moves from her role as Assistant SP at the State Police Headquarters to serve as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer in Bargarh.
