Phulbani: IAS Probationer Sardar Jaskaran Singh has been actively exploring development initiatives in the fisheries sector as part of his ongoing district training program. His engagement reflects a broader administrative effort to strengthen grassroots economies, modernize aquaculture practices, and foster sustainable livelihood models for coastal and rural farming communities.
During the visit, the officer inspected the District Fisheries Office Phulbani and reviewed operational activities at the Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation fish farm located in Phulbani.
During recent field visits and departmental reviews, the officer interacted with local fish farmers, self-help groups, and fisheries departmental staff to assess existing infrastructure, yield optimization techniques, and supply chain logistics. Special emphasis was laid on understanding the implementation of government welfare schemes aimed at boosting inland and brackish water aquaculture, expanding cold storage access, and ensuring direct market linkages for primary producers.
Highlighting the potential of the sector to generate steady income and enhance nutritional security, the probationer reviewed modern practices such as biofloc technology, cage culture in water bodies, and integrated fish farming. Discussions also centered on resolving operational bottlenecks, improving credit flow for small-scale fishers, and leveraging technology to mitigate seasonal risks.
The initiative by the officer highlights the growing focus of young administrative officers on primary sector interventions, ensuring that flagship agricultural and allied sector programs deliver tangible benefits at the community level.
