Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved a major proposal to extend the state sector scheme titled Popularisation of Agricultural Implements, Equipment and Diesel Pump Sets, etc.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri K V Singh Deo presented the proposal during the Cabinet meeting, after which Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg briefed the media regarding the details of the decision.
Implemented under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, the initiative aims to boost farm mechanisation across Odisha by facilitating access to modern agricultural equipment. Earlier Secretary Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Shri Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav worked out details, which will benefit farmers at large.
The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of subsidies for various categories of machinery, including tractors, rotavators, power tillers, combine harvesters, and post-harvest equipment. These interventions are intended to enhance operational efficiency, improve crop productivity, lower physical drudgery for farmers, and promote the long-term sustainability of the agricultural sector.
During its previous implementation period from FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26, the scheme benefited 2,54,774 farmers across the state, demonstrating significant outreach. To sustain these gains and further modernise farming practices, the Cabinet approved extending the scheme for another five years, spanning from FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31.
The extended five-year phase carries an estimated outlay of Rs 2,200.00 crore and is expected to benefit approximately 3,79,000 farmers throughout Odisha.
