Sarangi Chairs Indo-German Renewable Energy Meet

New Delhi: Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), co-chaired a review meeting of the Working Groups under the India–Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy today alongside Mr. Niels Annen, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Leading the discussions, Shri Sarangi guided both sides through a comprehensive stock-taking exercise to evaluate the current progress made by the dedicated Working Groups on Solar Photovoltaics, Wind Energy, Biogas, and Energy Storage. Under his direction, the co-chairs reviewed ongoing initiatives and identified key areas to accelerate collaboration.

Shri Sarangi reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Germany, emphasizing that clean energy technology acts as a powerful driver for climate action, economic opportunity, and long-term energy security. He highlighted India’s rapid strides in clean energy transition, noting that non-fossil fuel sources now account for nearly 54 percent of India’s total installed electricity capacity, putting the nation well on its path to achieving its ambitious target of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil capacity by 2030.

Building on this momentum, Shri Sarangi emphasized the extensive historical and strategic foundation of the Indo-German energy partnership. This cooperation, which began under the Indo-German Energy Forum in 2006, was elevated through the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership. Germany has committed 10 billion euros until 2030, largely in concessional loans via KfW Development Bank, to support India’s climate initiatives. Shri Sarangi pointed out that this funding actively backs critical national programs, including the expansion of massive transmission networks like the Green Energy Corridors, the Solar Rooftop Programme, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The meeting concluded with both sides focusing on joint efforts to scale up manufacturing capabilities and expand deployment frameworks for clean energy technologies. Under Shri Sarangi’s leadership, both delegations committed to fostering deeper public-private partnerships, encouraging collaborative research and development, and modernizing electricity grids to ensure a reliable and affordable clean energy supply.
