Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo opened CII Energy Conclave 2026 here on 25 June. The Confederation of Indian Industry in partnership with the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, hosted the CII Energy Conclave 2026 under the theme Powering Eastern India’s Green Transition – Policy, Innovation and Industrial Decarbonization.
The event gathered top policymakers, corporate leaders, and sustainability experts to lay out a comprehensive framework for the state’s transition toward a low-carbon, resilient industrial economy.
A central figure at the conclave, Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for the Department of Energy and Electronics and Information Technology, outlined the state government’s concrete strategy to advance industrial energy reform. Emphasizing the dual priorities of technological readiness and robust physical networks, ACS Shri Dev announced a capital allocation of 4,500 crore rupees dedicated entirely to strengthening Odisha’s transmission and distribution infrastructure. According to Shri Dev, modernizing the power grid is an essential prerequisite for handling the large-scale integration of renewable energy without compromising system stability.
Beyond foundational grid investments, ACS Shri Dev highlighted that Odisha’s strategy expands past mere capacity additions to encompass comprehensive system integration. The state’s focus is actively shifting toward deploying battery energy storage systems and massive pumped storage projects to manage grid loads efficiently. This operational evolution forms a core pillar of the state’s broader ambition to establish an 11 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, a goal already backed by over 67,000 crore rupees in active investment intentions for solar, wind, and hybrid projects.
ACS Shri Dev stressed that scaling the clean energy sector requires deep institutional collaboration. He called for a unified approach linking green project developers, technology providers, financial institutions, and local communities to build a truly integrated energy ecosystem. He noted that the growth of green hydrogen and green ammonia industries along the Odisha coastline provides a strategic economic advantage, positioning the state as a prime gateway for low-carbon manufacturing and sustainable industrial development in Eastern India.
The infrastructure roadmap shared by the Additional Chief Secretary aims to give Odisha a major competitive edge in drawing clean energy investments while systematically decarbonizing its intensive industrial sectors. Highlighting Odisha’s rising prominence in the global sustainability landscape, Shri Dev concluded his address by announcing that Bhubaneswar will host the upcoming Global Energy Leaders Summit 2026, inviting international stakeholders and industry leaders to participate in shaping the next phase of the global clean energy transition.
