Bhubaneswar: In a rare and historically significant event for Odisha, President Shrimati Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi are set to jointly visit the state on June 20, 2026. The high-profile visit centers around Mayurbhanj district and marks the completion of two years of the state government under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara”. This visit emphasizes the acceleration of development in tribal and rural regions, backed by a massive infrastructure and welfare package exceeding 47,600 crore rupees.
The day will commence at approximately 11:15 AM in Pahadpur village within the Mayurbhanj district, where both dignitaries will pay their respects at the sacred Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera groves. Their schedule in Pahadpur also features visits to a local Skill Centre and the Pahadpur School, spotlighting ongoing federal and state initiatives targeted at boosting education, vocational training, and livelihood opportunities in remote sectors.
By 1:00 PM, the focus will shift to a massive public gathering at Rairangpur, the hometown of President Smt.Murmu. Here, the Prime Minister will officially launch, lay the foundation stones for, and inaugurate an extensive array of projects crossing multiple socio-economic sectors. This comprehensive development push includes critical advancements in energy infrastructure, road connectivity, healthcare access, and regional industrial growth.
Among the monumental energy projects, the foundation stones will be laid for the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project and the Stage-II Expansion Project of the IB Thermal Power Station, which introduces two new units of 660 MW each. Additionally, the region will see the commencement of the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited project at Lakhanpur in the Jharsuguda district, aimed at utilizing domestic coal resources more cleanly while shrinking import reliance.
Infrastructure and green energy expansions are further represented by the foundation laying of a 300 tonnes per day source-segregated Municipal Solid Waste-based Compressed Biogas Plant in Bhubaneswar. To improve transit between major hubs, a new bridge over the Kathajodi River will be initiated to provide a direct link between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Roadway expansions will feature the widening of the Dhalpur-Harbhanga Road in Boudh and the four-laning of national highway 353 from Nuapada to Ghatipada. Irrigation and regional education projects, such as the Kusumdihi Megalift Irrigation Project, an IGNOU Regional Centre, and an Indoor Badminton Complex at Rairangpur, will also begin their initial phases.
Simultaneously, several vital healthcare and connectivity facilities are slated for immediate inauguration. A brand-new 300-bedded District Headquarters Hospital building will open in Boudh, alongside 24 Atal Bus Stands and nine Automated Testing Stations distributed across multiple districts to augment public transit safety and accessibility. Other key completions ready for inauguration include the Nayagarh Town Bypass on national highway 57, the underground pipeline component of the Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project, major multi-tracking railway lines like the Jakhapura-Jajpur Keonjhar Road-Baitarani Road and Hindol Road-Meramandali lines, as well as a new Sports Complex and a Tribal Research Centre in Rairangpur.
This mega-visit marks a continuing trend of intensive central focus on the region. Over the last two years alone, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made frequent trips to Odisha to monitor, launch, and advance development welfare packages, visiting the state a notable total of seven times. This trend underlines the administration’s stated focus on integrating tribal and rural communities into the mainstream national economy.
