SNIL Hosts Legal Clinic

Bhubaneswar: Reaffirming its steadfast commitment to inclusive legal outreach and social justice, a two-day Legal Awareness Camp was conducted by the Legal Aid Clinic of SOA National Institute of Law (SNIL), faculty of legal studies of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University here, for the transgender community recently.

Around 100 members of the transgender community who attended the camp significantly contributed to the success of the Legal Awareness Camp conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) S. A. K. Azad, Dean of the institution. Thirty student volunteers and members of the Legal Aid Society actively participated in the two-day event.

The Legal Awareness Camp was held at Damana in the capital city was held on April 26 in collaboration with the Sakhi Foundation. The volunteers had meaningful one-to-one interaction with members of the transgender community thereby gaining valuable insights into the everyday challenges they faced while making them aware about fundamental rights, legal protections available to them and various government welfare schemes. Ms. Sweety Sahu, President of SAKHi, a Community Based Organization in Bhubaneswar shared her inspiring journey marked by resilience and achievement.

On the second day, the camp was shifted to Sundarpada under the supervision of Ms. Meera Parida, Founder of SAKHA, a Community Based Organization in Bhubaneswar. The Participants were sensitized about their legal rights with particular emphasis on equality, dignity and social inclusion. The interactive sessions fostered constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement between community members and student volunteers.

The two-day program proved to be highly impactful significantly enhancing legal awareness among the transgender community. It also conveyed a strong message of equality, dignity and importance of safeguarding rights reflecting the institution’s enduring commitment to community engagement and access to justice.

The program was efficiently supervised and coordinated by Mr. Siddharth Das, Mr. Pramith Nandi, Mr. Himanshu Sekhar Muduli and Mr. Anurag Das, all faculty members.
