Rains Cool Capital City

Bhubaneswar: State Capital and its neighboring areas experienced a slight dip in the heat as light rain and thunder activities were recorded.

According to the evening bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on May 10, 2026, the capital city saw a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.3 degrees Celsius.

A trace of rainfall was officially recorded in the city between early morning and evening hours, contributing to a significant rise in relative humidity which peaked at 82 percent by late afternoon.

The weather office has predicted a partly cloudy sky for Bhubaneswar over the next 24 hours with the continued possibility of thunderstorms or lightning development. Temperatures in the capital are expected to remain steady, hovering around 36 degrees Celsius during the day and 24 degrees Celsius at night.

Across the wider state, Bargarh recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours with 42.4 mm, while the highest maximum temperature in Odisha was shared by Nuapada at 39.0 degrees Celsius and Sonepur and Bolangir at 38.8 degrees Celsius.

A synoptic trough persisting from northeast Bihar to coastal Andhra Pradesh across Odisha is the primary driver of the current weather pattern.

Looking ahead, an Orange Warning has been issued for Day 1 for Dhenkanal, Gajapati, and Keonjhar, where residents should prepare for thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph. Yellow warnings for thunderstorms and wind remain in place for many other districts through the coming week.

While maximum temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the next two to three days, the weather office anticipates a rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius thereafter across the state. No specific warnings have been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.
