Bhubaneswar: Biju Mahila Janata Dal chose the occasion of Mother’s Day to launch a statewide Women’s Rights Campaign from Sankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
BJD President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik joined the event virtually to extend his greetings to the mothers who give life to the world while simultaneously expressing deep concern over a recent rise in atrocities against women in the state.
The campaign serves as a clarion call for women’s rights, with BJD leaders criticizing the current government for failing to provide 33 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies. Leaders including Snehangini Chhuria and Sulata Deo condemned what they described as the violation of social security and political rights for mothers in Odisha.
Shri Patnaik emphasized that the party is continuing the legacy of legendary leader Biju Patnaik by fighting for female empowerment.
The BJD argued that reservation for women should be implemented immediately based on the current strength of Lok Sabha seats rather than waiting for the delimitation process. This protest-driven campaign is scheduled to continue through every Assembly Constituency until May 25, aiming to reach every household with a message of safety and equality for the 2.5 crore women of the state.
