Odisha’s Temperature Swings

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is currently experiencing a striking contrast in its weather patterns as the state navigates a phase of significant temperature variations. According to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the region is witnessing a literal blow hot, blow cold scenario where intense daytime heat meets surprisingly chilly nights.

The heat is clamping down on the western districts, with Jharsuguda recording the state’s highest maximum temperature at 39.6 degrees Celsius. This reading is particularly noteworthy as it sits more than 5 degrees above the normal range for this time of year. Other areas like Sambalpur and Titilagarh are also feeling the burn, with temperatures hovering around the 37 degree mark.

However, the coastal and interior pockets are telling a very different story during the late hours. Rourkela reported the state’s lowest minimum temperature at a crisp 13.2 degrees Celsius, creating a massive gap between the peak heat of the day and the cool of the night. This thermal see-saw is further complicated by atmospheric conditions, as dry weather continues to prevail across all districts.

In the capital region, the weather remains a mixed bag. Bhubaneswar hit a high of 36.8 degrees Celsius while simultaneously dealing with shallow fog that dropped visibility to 200 meters.

Bhubaneswar is currently experiencing sunny skies with a temperature of 34°C, a north wind at 5 mph, and 25% humidity. Over the next week, the city will remain mostly sunny with high temperatures ranging between 32°C and 36°C and lows between 22°C and 24°C, including a 40% chance of light rain this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chandbali experienced dense fog conditions earlier today. As the sun stays sharp and the nights remain cool, residents are finding themselves switching from light cottons at noon to warmer layers by dawn.
