SECI-AP Finalize CAPEX Deal

Visakhapatnam: The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), today exchanged Government Orders (GOs) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the development of a 1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Nandyal and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project.

The 1200 MWh BESS project is an initiative under Market-Based Operations, for which the Ministry of Power designated SECI as the implementing agency through an order dated January 23, 2025.

The project received subsequent approval from the Chairman of the SECI Board, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, on October 22, 2025. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been closely monitoring the progress and development of both the BESS and Hybrid Solar projects.

Shri Sarangi, Secretary Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is regularly monitoring Green energy Projects.

The formal exchange took place during the Energy Session of the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025, a key event held in Visakhapatnam and organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister, Shri Gottipati Ravi Kumar, formally handed over the Government Orders to SECI representatives, Shri Sivakumar Venkat Vepakomma and Shri Rohit Choubey. The exchange was held in the presence of Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Shri K.Vijayanand, and the Vice Chairman of NREDCAP, M. Kamalakara Babu.

Both the BESS and Hybrid Solar projects are slated for development under the CAPEX Mode, with SECI assuming complete investment responsibilities for the initiatives.

This exchange of GOs is seen as a significant step toward strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy infrastructure. SECI has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with States and Central Ministries to hasten India’s move toward a greener, more resilient energy future. These projects are expected to significantly boost clean energy storage capacity, bolstering the state’s renewable ecosystem and accelerating India’s transition to a storage-enabled green grid.
