Green Hydrogen To Power Energy Security

New Delhi: Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, addressed the first plenary session of International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH) 2025, outlining the pivotal role of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in securing India’s energy future. He stressed that the Mission, through its focus on strengthening energy resilience and advancing decarbonization, is key to the nation’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Shri Sarangi, MNRE Secretary highlighted the four foundational pillars of the NGHM: policy and regulatory framework, demand creation, research and development (R&D) and innovation, and enabling infrastructure and ecosystem development.

Shri Sarangi detailed the ambitious targets of the Mission, including building a 5 MMT annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, attracting over USD 100 billion in investment, and creating six lakh jobs. He noted the significant R&D outlay of over ₹400 crore supporting 23+ projects, which is expected to enable India to produce the lowest-cost green hydrogen and ammonia, thereby positioning the country as a global export hub.

He further elaborated on India’s comprehensive clean energy strategy, which includes four key enablers: an infrastructure pipeline, global standards, strategic partnerships, and financial de-risking. The strategy also includes the creation of dedicated Hydrogen Valleys and Green Energy Ports to accelerate the deployment and uptake of green hydrogen technology.
