IREDA Chief: Train Green Workforce

New Delhi: Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), has called for the immediate establishment of dedicated green skilling centers of excellence across India.

Speaking at the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE), IREDA CMD Shri Das emphasized that these centers are critical to preparing the nation’s workforce for the projected 3 million green jobs expected by 2030.

Shri Das underlined that India’s ambitious clean energy transition depends on more than just technology and capital; it requires a robust, skilled workforce.

He noted that IREDA has already played a significant role by financing over 27 GW of renewable energy projects, which have generated an estimated 600,000 construction jobs and 50,000 long-term operations and maintenance positions.

To build a knowledge-driven green economy, Shri Das highlighted IREDA’s own initiatives, including becoming a fully paperless organization and actively collaborating with premier academic institutions like IITs to create a knowledge bank for innovation and skill development.

He stressed that achieving the nation’s renewable energy targets and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 hinges on both massive capital inflows and a skilled human resource base.

In his address, Shri Das urged a collaborative effort among the government, industry, finance, academia, and civil society. He reaffirmed IREDA’s commitment to not only finance renewable energy projects but also to support the broader ecosystem through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

He stated that IREDA’s mission is to ensure that “India’s clean energy transition uplifts society at large,” referencing their ongoing projects in health, education, and rural infrastructure.

As part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada campaign, IREDA has planned a series of green energy education and awareness programs in schools throughout the Delhi-NCR region, reinforcing its dedication to youth engagement and community outreach.
