India, S. Korea Discuss Renewable Energy

New Delhi: In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in the renewable energy sector, India’s Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Santosh Kumar Sarangi held a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Korea.

The delegation, led by Honorable Members of Parliament Mr. Gyeongjong Mo and Mr. Yongtae Kim, met with the Secretary Shri Sarangi today at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, the headquarters of the MNRE in New Delhi.

The meeting focused on apprising the South Korean delegation of India’s rapid strides and ambitious targets in the field of renewable energy. India’s renewable energy capacity has seen exponential growth in recent years, making it one of the world’s leading players in the clean energy transition.

Discussions during the meeting centered on potential areas of future collaboration between the two countries. Both sides explored avenues for joint ventures and knowledge sharing, particularly in emerging and high-growth sectors. Key areas of focus included:

Energy Storage: With the increasing integration of intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind, energy storage solutions are critical for grid stability. The delegations discussed cooperation on battery storage and other innovative technologies.

Green Hydrogen: India has launched its National Green Hydrogen Mission to position itself as a global hub for green hydrogen production and export. The two nations deliberated on leveraging each other’s expertise to advance the green hydrogen ecosystem.

Solar and Wind Manufacturing: To reduce reliance on imports and boost domestic production, India has been promoting local manufacturing of solar and wind components. The meeting highlighted opportunities for South Korean companies to invest and collaborate in India’s manufacturing sector.

The visit of the South Korean parliamentary delegation comes at a time of growing strategic partnership between India and the Republic of Korea, with a shared commitment to addressing global challenges like climate change through technological and economic cooperation.

The discussions at the MNRE underscore the importance of clean energy as a cornerstone of this enhanced partnership.
