Sarangi Takes MNRE Charge

New Delhi: An Ace Mandarin, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, a 1994 batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, has taken over as the new Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India on 21 April.

A distinguished Civil Servant, Shri Sarangi brings a wealth of diverse experience to his new role, having served in key positions across various sectors including Science & Technology, International Trade, Education, Tourism, Mining, and Tribal Affairs.

His academic credentials include a Master’s in Political Science from the University of Delhi and a Master’s in Public Policy from Duke University, USA.

Throughout his career, Shri Sarangi has demonstrated strong leadership and administrative capabilities. He has held positions ranging from grassroots leadership as District Magistrate in three districts to significant national roles.

His previous assignments include Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Tea Board, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Education, and Chairperson of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

As the new Head of MNRE, Shri Sarangi is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating India’s clean energy transition. His cross-sectoral expertise and strategic vision are anticipated to drive innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability within the renewable energy sector.

With India focused on expanding its renewable energy capacity, Shri Sarangi’s leadership is poised to strengthen the nation’s position as a global leader in renewable energy and climate action.
