8 New ARCs In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has decided to set up eight new Advanced Rehabilitation Centres (ARCs) in different districts to provide advanced robotic therapeutic services and high tech artificial limbs such as Prosthesis, Orthosis etc. to the needy PwDs beneficiaries free of cost.

Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary, Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) has chalked out the Road Map for establishment of ARCs.

Accordingly it has been decided to set up new ARCs at Khandapada in Nayagarh district, Umerkote in Nabarangpur district, Baripada in Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Berhampur in Ganjam, Phulbani in Kandhamal district, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district and Koraput.

The SSEPD Department has sent a letter to the District Collectors of the eight districts today. The Advanced Rehabilitation Centres will have a 20 bedded dormitory for PwDs.

The ARCs will be operated by the concerned District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs). For this purpose, the Collectors have been requested to make preparations on setting up of ARCs in existing DDRCs in their districts.

The Collectors have been asked to look into different aspects for setting up of the ARCs including availability of space/infrastructure at DDRC, setting up of additional 2-3 halls, 4-5 rooms.

The Collectors were asked to identify adequate spaces required for 20 bedded dormitory & toilet facilities and requirement of funds in this regard.

“The detailed operational guidelines, manpower requirements etc. will be informed at a later stage. You are therefore requested to take steps on priority basis for setting up of ARCs along with a 20 bedded dormitory for PwDs at DDRC in your district,” SSEPD Director Niyati Pattanaik told the eight Collectors in his letter.

According to sources, each ARC will have two components one is Robotic Therapy Unit: Robotic Neuro Rehabilitation services for upper and lower limbs and CAD CAM carver System along with Workshop for measurement through scanner, fabrication and fitment of prosthesis/orthosis (artificial limbs).
