Bhubaneswar: Given the current heat wave and heat, the coming week is important for Odisha, pointed out Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.
Shri Jena said that in view of the ongoing elections, various political parties are organizing rallies and meetings so that adequate drinking water and ORS should be kept in these places so that the public can be saved from the heat wave to a great extent.
Special Relief Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Satyabrata Sahu outlined the discussion in a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.
Shri Jena suggested that the district collectors should ensure adequate arrangement of drinking water and ORS by political parties in election-related rallies and meetings. Jena suggested that the district collectors should hold regular discussions with the authorities of the electricity department to continue uninterrupted power supply along with drinking water.
The Chief Secretary has urged everyone to make the water umbrella more comprehensive. He advised various departments to alert and make the public aware of the impact and untimely lightning strikes through the media. He suggested that the district and sub-divisional administrations should take the help of Odisha Disaster Resource Network (OdiaRN) portal for better management of various types of disasters.
The meeting discussed in detail the forest fire sites and measures being taken to mitigate them , putting up awareness messages about heat wave and lightning on every booth wall, proper arrangement of ICUs in hospitals, among others.
Development Commissioner Anu Garg, , Principal Secretaries, Senior Officers and District Collectors of various departments attended the meeting.
