Cabinet Clears Canal Bid

Bhubaneswar: State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal on financial bid in respect of the construction of intake structure along with Pressure Main from RD 0.00 Km to RD 34,10 KM along the Right Bank of Bargarh Main Canal to proposed Intake location at RD 34.10 Km of Bargarh Main Canal of Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project, Bijepur on “EPC-Turnkey” basis including Power Connectivity System and Operation & Maintenance of complete commissioned project for five years”.

As per the provision in the original DPR of Hirakud Dam, water will be pumped from RD.34.10 km of Bargarh Main Canal to meet the irrigation requirement of Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project. To implement the provisions of DPR, lining ofBargarh Main Canal up to 34.10 km and renovation of structures are necessary & closure of Bargarh Main Canal is required for at least two years.

It is apprehended that closure of canal may lead to resentment of farmers in the Bargarh canal command area.

In view of above, an alternate arrangement made and it is decided to draw the water directly from the Head Regulator of Bargrah Main Canal by constructing 34.10 km pipeline.

Accordingly a proposal namely “Construction of intake structure along with pressure main from RD 0.00 Km. to RD 34.10 Km. along the right bank of Bargarh Main Canal” has been prepared and tender was invited.

The work will be executed through Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode on Turnkey basis with project completion period of 30 months. On completion of this work, water for Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project to provide 25,600 Ha. of Bijepur, Sohela and Barpali blocks of Bargarh District and Dunguripali block of Sonepur District will be ensured.
