Bhubaneswar: While there was wide scale apprehension that winter will scale up COVID-19 Cases, Kandhamal District proved it otherwise.
In fact Kandhamal is the coldest place in Odisha with mercury level settled below 10 degree Celsius for the past two weeks.
However Kandhamal has became COVID-19 free, with no active case left in the district for last three days.
Odisha”s COVID-19 caseload on Sunday rose to 3,35,620 after 72 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.
The death toll remained unchanged at 1,909 as no fresh fatality was reported since Saturday, he said
Of the 72 cases, 43 were reported from quarantine centres and the rest detected during contact tracing.
Sundergarh reported the maximum number of new cases at 14, followed by Angul at 10 and Jharsuguda at seven.
Twelve districts, including Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara and Keonjhar, did not register any new case in the last 24 hours, the official said.
Odisha currently has 853 active cases, while as many as 3,32,733 patients have recovered from the highly infectious disease. Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died in the state due to comorbidities.
At least 78.40 lakh samples have been examined for COVID-19, including 23,785 on Saturday. The positivity rate in the coastal state stands at 4.27 per cent.
More than 2.75 lakh frontline workers have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in Odisha thus far, the official added.
