Bhubaneswar: To provide updated health conditions of patients to the attendants, the State Government has asked all Government Medical College and Hospitals (MCHs) to strength the help desks in their institution to disseminate information to the patient’s family members.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Shalini Pandit has written a letter to the Superintendents of all Government Medical College and Hospitals, Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla and Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack on this purpose.
During the outbreak of COVID-19, it was felt necessary that the prevalent system of informing the family members/ attendants of the respective IPD patients regarding the updated information on the health condition of the patient, need to be strengthened so that the family members/ attendants would be able to get detail information about the treatment & health condition of the patient, Shrimati Pandit said.
This was quite helpful to the relatives/attendants of patients admitted in ICU / HDU, where access of the attendants is restricted, she said.
“In view of the above, the State Government, after careful consideration, has been pleased to decide to strengthen the help desk already functioning / set up help desk in each Government Medical College and Hospital of the State for better dissemination of updated information on the health condition & treatment of the IPD patients to their respective attendants and/ or family members,” the Secretary said in her letter to the Government MCHs.
For the purpose of making the help desk fully functional and vibrant, she has asked the medical institutions to designate a senior Nursing Officer of the Government Medical College and Hospital having the suitable attitude and aptitude as the Swasthya Sanjojak.
The duty of the Swasthya Sanjojak would be to act as a link between the hospital and patient’s family/attendant and who will disseminate up-to-date information about the health condition/ treatment of the patient to his/her family members.
