Bhubaneswar: Ace Mandarin, Arabinda Kumar Padhee Tuesday took over as Principal Secretary Fisheries and Animal Resources Development.
Dr.Padhee, Principal Secretary Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has been given additional charge of the allied sector, FARD.
With R Raghu Prasad, IFS leaving for Government of India, Odisha Government appointed Dr.Padhee to handle the sector, which has immense potential.
Fisheries Sector requires a Road Map to be implemented in a time bound manner for attaining self-sufficiency in fish seed production by adopting advanced technology in Government Fish Farms for early seed production, promoting private hatcheries and developing network of fish seed growers.
Dr.Padhee talked to the senior officials of the Department of FARD and asked to move ahead in preparing the Road Map, said sources.
Principal Secretary Dr.Padhee asked to implement 5T Charter in FARD Sector with a rigid time frame.
Transforming Inland and brackish aquaculture in the state by intensive freshwater and brackish water fish farming through attractive incentive mechanisms and encouraging private entrepreneurship for enhancing fish production in reservoirs.
Providing livelihood to Women Self Help Groups (WSHG)s through Mission Shakti is one of the major agenda of FARD Sector.
Animal Resources Development sector also requires a time bound program for attaining self sufficiency in egg production by developing poultry hubs and boosting entrepreneurship development in poultry.
This can be achieved through strategic promotion of commercial, semi-commercial and small scale layer units.
Dr.Padhee harped on use of technology interface and digital platform in bringing transparency and efficiency in Veterinary Services.
