Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) & ACS Revenue & Disaster Management, Satyabrata Sahu today alerted ten districts to remain alert as the water level in the Mahanadi River showed a rising trend following the discharge of flood water from Hirakud Dam.
As heavy rain lashed the upper catchment area of Hirakud Dam, the dam authority has opened six more sluice gates of the dam to release excess water from the Hirakud dam.
The SRC Shri Sahu has warned the collectors of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Angul, Boudh, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts to keep a close watch on the low-lying areas.
The ACS Shri Sahu has issued an advisory to restrict the movement of people in low-lying areas. The people have been advised not to commute on the roads and bridges, which have been over flooded.
Entry to the submerged or submerged roads, culverts, and bridges has been restricted, and the collectors were asked to report any untoward incidents immediately.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) for Saturday.
During the monsoon period (from June 1 to August 9), the state has recorded an average rainfall of 621.8 mm against the normal precipitation of 666.8 mm.
During the period, Malkangiri district has recorded large excess rainfall, while rainfall in Koraput, Nuapada, Boudh and Sonepur districts has been categorised as excess, according to the weatherman.
Similarly, 16 districts received normal downpour and the remaining 9 districts were in the deficient category.
