Bhubaneswar: The state-level function of celebrating the 15th National Voters’ Day was held in a grand ceremony at Rabindra Mandap here on 25 January.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was the Chief Guest on the occasion and read out the Voters’ Resolution. Chief Electoral Officer R S Gopalan presided over the ceremony.
The 15th National Voters’ Day was celebrated today at the state level under the auspices of the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, to raise voter awareness and to inspire India to maintain India as a strong democracy.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary Shri Ahuja read out the voters’ resolution and addressed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary described voting as an important democratic responsibility.
He said that India being the largest democracy is an example all over the world. It is the responsibility of all of us as citizens to keep this reputation intact. Therefore, he called upon all the voters to be careful about that responsibility.
A short film and photo exhibition on voter awareness was launched by the Chief Secretary on the occasion.
On this occasion, Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha R S Gopalan, RDC Central Division, Parameswaran, Khurda District Collector and District Election Officer Chanchal Kumar Rana talked about Indian democracy and the role of voters in it.
At the outset Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Shatrughan Kar delivered the welcome address. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Laxmi Prasad Sahu proposed the vote of thanks.
Among others, Pramod Bhagat, Kamalakanta Nayak, Jayanti Behera, Sadhna Mishra and Aishwarya Rituparna Pradhan were honoured for creating awareness about voting by acting as icons in the simultaneous General Elections-2024.
The districts of Khurda, Keonjhar, Puri, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Boudh, Balasore and Sambalpur were honoured for their performance in various aspects for the General Elections-2024.
