Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, in a significant effort to bolster rural healthcare, recently organized a free-of-cost, multispecialty mega health camp at Gunpur village in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. The initiative, a collaborative effort with the District Health Administration, Kalahandi, and Swaraj Hospital, Balangir, provided essential medical services to over 200 people from 26 villages across the Thuamul Rampur and Kashipur blocks.
The camp brought a wide range of medical services to remote communities, offering specialized consultations and check-ups in orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, ENT, and chest and tuberculosis care. All services, including the distribution of medicines, were provided at no cost to the beneficiaries.
Dr. Pradosh Kumar Panda, Block Public Health Officer (CHC Thuamul Rampur), inaugurated the camp alongside local healthcare professionals and community representatives, underscoring the strong partnership between the company and government bodies to improve healthcare access at the grassroots level.
In a statement on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Ensuring access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of our development efforts. We strive to strengthen rural healthcare by bringing essential medical services closer to those who need them the most. These efforts reflect our commitment to empowering people to lead healthier, more informed lives.”
This recent camp is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader CSR strategy. To date, the company has organized more than 35 health camps across Rayagada and Kalahandi districts, providing free consultations, diagnostic services, and medicines to thousands. The company’s healthcare efforts also include regular specialized eye camps, a partnership with government health programs like Swarna Prashan, and the deployment of mobile health units to reach underserved regions.
Vedanta Aluminium’s community empowerment initiatives extend beyond healthcare to include education, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure development, and the promotion of grassroots sports and culture, demonstrating a holistic approach to fostering socio-economic progress in Odisha.
