V V Yadav New DGCA

New Delhi: The appointment of Shri Vir Vikram Yadav, a distinguished IAS Officer as the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) marks a significant transition in his professional journey.

Moving from his role as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Yadav now takes the helm of India’s civil aviation regulator.

This assignment is particularly crucial as the aviation sector undergoes rapid expansion, requiring a balance between safety compliance and the entry of new players and technologies.

His professional capabilities are underscored by his diverse administrative experience in both state and central governments. Having handled complex portfolios, including his recent tenure in environmental policy, he brings a structured approach to governance and regulatory oversight.

His background in Odisha involved managing key infrastructure and administrative departments, which equipped him with the technical and managerial skills necessary to oversee the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

This new role involves supervising airworthiness, licensing, and safety standards across the country. The decision to appoint him by keeping the recruitment rules in abeyance reflects the government’s confidence in his ability to lead this specialized agency.

He succeeds Shri Faiz Ahmed Kidwai at a time when the ministry is focused on modernization and streamlining domestic air operations.

Alongside these changes, other senior appointments include Shri Vishal Gagan, also from the Odisha cadre (1998 batch), moving from his position as Resident Commissioner to become the Secretary of the Central Information Commission.
