New Delhi: In a significant move for India’s environmental governance, Vir Vikram Yadav, a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1996 batch, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) formally approved this crucial assignment on May 30, placing him at the helm of the nation’s apex pollution control body.

Shri Yadav currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), a role he assumed following his central deputation from the Odisha cadre.

His extensive administrative experience and proven track record across various critical domains are expected to provide robust leadership to the CPCB in its ongoing efforts to mitigate pollution and promote sustainable development.

Prior to his central deputation, Shri Yadav held the esteemed position of Principal Secretary to the Department of Works in the Government of Odisha, where his contributions to infrastructure development were widely recognized.

His distinguished career in public service also includes impactful tenures as Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), where he spearheaded the visionary Parikrama Prakalp Yojana.

Longest serving Principal Secretary, Food, Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Shri Yadav played a vital role in ensuring food security and strengthening cooperative frameworks within the state.

The CPCB, a statutory organization operating under the MoEF&CC, plays a pivotal role in promoting the cleanliness of streams, wells, and air across India. It is mandated to advise the government on pollution control measures, enforce environmental laws, and coordinate with State Pollution Control Boards.

Shri Yadav’s appointment comes at a critical juncture as India grapples with multifaceted environmental challenges, including air and water pollution, waste management, and climate change impacts.
