Jagatsinghpur: In a move to enhance urban transport and public service delivery, Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport Department, Government of Odisha, visited the construction site of the Model Bus Terminal in Jagatsinghpur.
The visit, part of her two-day official district tour, focused on the progress and future operation of the ₹16 crore project.
Accompanied by key district officials including Collector and District Magistrate Shri J. Sonal and Jagatsinghpur Municipality Chairperson Smt. Archana Singh, Smt. Padhee conducted a detailed review of the terminal’s infrastructure planning and execution.
During the inspection, she emphasized the critical need for well-structured Operation & Maintenance (O&M) mechanisms to ensure the terminal’s long-term efficiency and sustainability. Her key recommendations for the project included:Promoting Local Entrepreneurship: Provisioning of commercial shop spaces to provide opportunities for local businesses. and Embracing Sustainable Energy: Establishment of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and the integration of solar energy systems for clean and green operations.
Smt. Padhee’s proposals were met with a positive response from the executing teams, who assured that her suggestions would be promptly incorporated.
The Principal Secretary reiterated the Odisha government’s commitment to building citizen-friendly, energy-efficient, and well-managed urban transport facilities across the state.
The visit highlights the government’s focus on the timely delivery and qualitative upgrading of the Model Bus Terminal, aiming to transform it into a modern and efficient hub for urban mobility in Jagatsinghpur.
