Bhubaneswar: Eminent Experts have opined that sustainability in Mining and Metal Sector is much needed.
They were speaking over the topic for Panel Discussion in the 1st Session of Day-3 in “Resurgent Odisha-2024” organized under the aegis of Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industries was; “Sustainable Mining and Metals”.
Ace Industrialist Prabodh Kumar Mohanty, Managing Director SNM Group presented the scenario on Mining and Metals.
Shri Mohanty, who is also the Chairman of Global Trade Show, Resugent Odisha-2024 gave a broad picture on wise-use of mineral resources.
TK Chand, former CMD, NALCO, Debashis Mallick, President, HINDALCO and RR Satpathy, ED, Lloyds Metals and Energy were the panelists.
Siddhanta Das, Chairman, CEC and ORERA moderated the session.
In his opening remarks Sri Das said, sustainability in this sector is necessary in the following sectors such as Intergenerational Resource Sustainability, Social Sustainability, Financial Sustainability, and Ecological Sustainability.
Shri Chand focused on Social Sustainability. He emphasized that unless the local communities are accepted as partners the process cannot be sustainable.
Shri Mallick spoke about optimizing use of resources by focusing on: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Shri Satpathy emphasized on minimizing waste and net-zero.
Concluding the discussions Sri Das said the ultimate touchstone of sustainability lies in minimizing Carbon footprint.
He also highlighted on the importance of conservation of Wildlife, Forest and Water.
Serious discussion on the burning issue of ‘Sustainability of Mining and Metals’ was well appreciated by the audience.
