Bhubaneswar: The ambitious Bhubaneswar New City Project took a significant step forward today with a high-level meeting between the Government of Odisha and representatives from the global urban solutions consultancy, Surbana Jurong.
Mr. Avinas Misra, Chief Executive of Surbana Jurong South Asia, and Mr. Abhisek Malhotra, Regional Director, met with Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department, at Kharavela Bhawan to discuss the project’s roadmap.
The meeting focused on key aspects of urban infrastructure and managed services for the proposed new city, which is slated to be developed on a 338.436-hectare parcel of land. The concept for this model city will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Urban Challenge Fund.
Smt. Usha Padhee highlighted the project’s vision, stating, “The Bhubaneswar New City Project is a landmark step for Odisha to shape a world-class urban centre, reflecting inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience for future generations.” The new city aims to optimize land value and achieve international branding by creating a vibrant and resilient urban ecosystem.
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is set to collaborate with JLL to prepare the master plan for the development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BDA and JLL was signed during the recent visit of the Honorable President of Singapore to Bhubaneswar, solidifying the international partnership. JLL will also be tasked with recommending the best-suited product mix for the new city’s development, ensuring its commercial and social viability.
This collaboration with Surbana Jurong and JLL, both leaders in urban planning and real estate, signals the government’s commitment to leveraging global expertise to build a futuristic and well-planned urban center for Odisha.
