Bhubaneswar: The Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, under the guidance of President Dr. Prabodh Mohanty, organized a significant commemorative meeting on April 22, 2026, at Hotel Trident in Bhubaneswar.
This event was held to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of the United States of America, providing a venue for local industry leaders to reflect on the historical journey of American independence and the growth of international diplomacy.
The gathering was graced by Her Excellency Laura Williams, the U.S. Consul General based in Hyderabad. In her address to the Odisha business community, she spoke extensively about the robust and evolving partnership between India and the United States.
Her insights focused on the shared democratic principles that underpin the economic and social ties between the two nations, particularly as the U.S. approaches its semiquincentennial milestone on July 4, 2026.
Dialogue during the event focused on several strategic areas of cooperation, including the advancement of renewable energy and sustainable technologies within the state of Odisha.
The meeting was coordinated by Honorary Secretary UCCIL Dr Sanjeev Mahapatra. Dr. Prabodh Mohanty President delivered the inaugural address, welcoming Ms. Laura Williams and her team. He highlighted Odisha’s abundant natural resources and remarkable strides in semiconductors and artificial intelligence, positioning it as an attractive investment destination.
UCCIL Chief Dr. Prabodh Mohanty outlined Odisha’s “Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat” roadmap to transform the state into a USD 500 billion economy by 2036 and USD 1.5 trillion by 2047, increasing Odisha’s GDP contribution from 3% to 5%… He noted that Odisha maintains a positive balance of payments with the United States and announced that UCCIL would lead a delegation to the United States to explore investment opportunities in sectors aligned with both nations’ strategic priorities.
Her Excellency Ms Laura. Williams expressed appreciation for Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, She commended interactions with senior Government of Odisha officials regarding the state’s progress in culture, critical minerals, information technology, and artificial intelligence.
She stressed the U.S. Consulate’s “TRUST” focus; “Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology”emphasizing collaboration in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and space exploration.
There was also a strong emphasis on the expansion of semiconductor manufacturing and the strengthening of digital infrastructure to support a modern economy. Participants discussed ways to bolster global supply chains and provide better support for the local startup ecosystem to drive future innovation.
In his closing remarks, UCCIL Chief Dr. Prabodh Mohanty highlighted the value of these high-level diplomatic interactions in bridging the gap between local industry and global markets. He noted that such engagements are essential for facilitating technological exchange and industrial growth.
The meeting ended with a mutual pledge to continue deepening economic relations and promoting cultural and tourism exchanges, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between Odisha and the United States.
