Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today appointed new Superintendents of Police (SPs) for Berhampur and Khurda police districts, few days after issuing transfer order of two IPS officers from the posts.
Writing a letter to Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena, ECI Secretary Rakesh Kumar has instructed Sarthak Sarangi as Berhampur SP and Awinash Kumar as the new SP of Khurda district.
The State Government has submitted a list of three eligible IPS officers for the post of SP in the two districts, of which the Commission has approved the names of Sarthak Sarangi and Awinash Kumar, sources said.
Following the EC approval, the Home Department will issue a formal notification on appointment to the two SPs.
Earlier, The EC has transferred Cuttack District Magistrate (DM) and District Election Officer (DEO) Vineet Bhardwaj, Jagatsinghpur DM & DEO Parul Patawari, Angul SP Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, Khurda SP Jugal Kishore Banoth, Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra and Sundergarh SP Kanwar Vishal Singh. The EC has also directed to transfer IG central Ashish Kumar Singh to non-election post.
The Commission had also asked the State to provide a panel of three eligible officers in respect of each of the above posts. Accordingly, the State Government had submitted a list of officers, from which, the EC had selected the new officers against the transfer of two collectors and four IPS officers.
