Balasore: Subarnarekha Port Private Limited (SPPL), in collaboration with the Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), has launched an innovative Dairy Development Programme in Baliapal, Balasore district. The initiative was unveiled on World Milk Day, June 1, 2023, marking a significant stride in sustainable growth and development of the dairy industry.
150 local dairy entrepreneurs converged on the Pratappur Gram Panchayat for an enlightening programme revolving around the theme: “How Dairy Reduces Its Environmental Footprint, Providing Nutritious Food & Livelihoods.” Emphasizing the importance of green fodder for profitable dairy farming, the participants also discussed the promotion of AZOLLA cultivation, an environmentally friendly cattle fodder. In a bid to further underscore the importance of Climate Resilient Agriculture, TSF extended support to the attendees by distributing Azolla pits.
Experts from Animal Resources Development Department and Balasore Bhadrak Co-op Milk Union Ltd (BBAMUL), OMFED, also graced the event, imparting invaluable knowledge on the Dairy Development Programme. The line-up of distinguished dignitaries included Dr. Banamali Sahoo, Chief District Veterinary Officer; Dr. Ranjan Kumar Dash, Additional District Veterinary Officer, Balasore; Rashmirekha Bindhani, General Manager, Bhadrak Balasore Milk Union Ltd; and Rajkumar Sahoo, Head Administration, SPPL.
TSF’s Dairy Development Programme is a comprehensive strategy designed to enhance the annual income of 5,000 farm families from operational areas by up to Rs 2.5 lakhs. The initiative is committed to propagating dairy as a crucial component of the local economy and sustainable agriculture.
Also present at the event were Suleman Ali, Senior Manager, SPPL, and Sajan Kumar Dash, Divisional Manager, SPPL. This programme is yet another testament to SPPL’s and TSF’s commitment to sustainable development and a brighter future for the local community.
