Thakur Mantra: Safety First

Bhubaneswar: Shri Amitabh Thakur, Commissioner, Transport, Odisha chaired a high-level capacity-building training program focused on advanced Road Safety Management. The Program was successfully conducted, aimed at equipping participants with strategic tools essential for creating “real impact” on the state’s roads.

The training, held at the institution, reportedly under the purview of @DirBpspa, centered its curriculum on the internationally recognized key pillars of road safety and the specialized Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Matrix.

The session was notably championed by Transport Commissioner Shri Thakur, who has been actively driving a mission-mode approach to enhance road safety across the region. Officials emphasized that moving beyond traditional methods, the focus is now on scientific investigation and evidence-based interventions.

Training sessions for participants focused on a systematic approach to analyzing and preventing road incidents:

Key Pillars of Road Safety: Participants received extensive training on the Safe System model, which requires safety improvements across all components—Safe Roads, Safe Speeds, Safe Vehicles, and Safe Road Users—to create a forgiving environment that minimizes crash severity.

Root Cause Analysis Matrix (RCA): A key highlight was the deployment of the RCA Matrix. This tool trains managers and officers to identify the underlying, systemic failures that contribute to accidents, allowing authorities to formulate long-term, preventive solutions in areas like engineering and enforcement.

This capacity-building drive underscores the department’s commitment to adopting modern, data-driven strategies for a significant and sustainable reduction in road fatalities under the leadership of Transport Commissioner Shri Amitabh Thakur.
