New Delhi: In a decisive move to address growing concerns over paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations like NEET, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has announced the constitution of a High Powered Task Force to reform India’s examination system. The initiative aims to overhaul the National Testing Agency (NTA) by incorporating advanced technology and structural changes to rebuild trust among students and parents.
The multidisciplinary panel will be led by technocrat Shri Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and the key architect behind Aadhaar. The panel comprises high-profile experts including former ISRO Chairman Shri S. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Shri Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Shrimati Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Shri Amrit Lal Meena.
The primary mandate of the committee is to evaluate the entire examination lifecycle. This includes question paper generation, secure digital distribution, physical test center management, identity verification, and evaluation protocols. To eliminate human intervention and plug existing vulnerabilities, the committee will explore modern technological solutions such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain-based verification systems.
Parallel to the formation of the task force, the Union Government is moving ahead with strict legislative enforcement. A comprehensive anti-paper leak bill is scheduled to be introduced in Parliament, prescribing stringent punishments for culprits, including up to 10 years of imprisonment and monetary fines up to 10 crore rupees. The draft framework approved by the Union Cabinet forms part of a broader strategy to deter examination syndicates and ensure complete transparency in future public tests.
